Starting career
My professional career began as secretary. I learned how to interpret the boss's hieroglyphics.

Much of this work was done with doctors and dentists, requiring specialized medical vocabulary (and local slang!), and all of it was amazing. When not out on river trips, I did conference-style interpreting and helped with the mission's print and web communications (writing copy, translating, and designing letters and brochures using photography from the trips).
