A few years ago I developed two plugins for SDL Trados Studio, one to access Google Translate and the other to access Microsoft Translator, although I do not use these or any other internet-based machine translation tools in my work.
I have experimented with various other kinds of MT tools over the years. Most recently I've been using translation memories to train MT models using the Moses statistical MT tool, with surprising productivity gains in limited cases (i.e. training corpora that are both domain-specific and client-specific). To use these models in my work I've created a prototype plugin for Trados Studio that accesses the models.More Less Message: I'm interested in speaking about my experience using MT in my work as a translator. My belief is that MT is just another tool, useful mainly for highly-qualified translators who want to get a little more leverage out of their translation memories than CAT tools provide. |
