ProZ.com powwow: Christmas Powwow

December 8, 2007, 3:00 pm
United KingdomLondonIn personEnglish
Hello everybody!

This time we are gathering for a Christmas Stammtisch* Powwow!

The venue is - as always - the Grafton Arms pub just around the corner from Warren Street tube station.

Venue details:

Grafton Arms
72 Grafton Way
London W1T 5DU

For directions and the exact location, please click on the link:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=l&hl=en&geocode=&q=grafton+arms&near=london&ie=UTF8&ll=51.523891,-0.135366&spn=0.004085,0.009881&z=17&om=1

The upstairs function room is booked for us from 3pm to 7pm, after that another Christmas party will take over the function room and we will move downstairs, where some tables are reserved for us.

We will have a little exchange of gifts - just something small (and not more than £5.00) at around 4pm. If you would like to join in, please do not come later than 4pm and bring some small gift with you!

You are welcome to bring biscuits or something Christmasy to eat and / or some candles - to get us into the spirit.

I look forward to seeing you there!

*Stammtisch - German for 'table reserved for regulars' at a pub or inn.

Secret gifts Dec 2, 2007

My suggestion: if you bring a gift, ensure that it is wrapped or in a bag so nobody can see what it is. Everyone will put their gift into a large black plastic bag (Arianna, will you bring one?) and then they are distributed anonymously like this: each participant takes one "lucky dip" item out of the bag (hoping that it is not the gift that s/he brought). This is how it was done last December and we all enjoyed the event.

Re Secret gifts Dec 2, 2007

As some gifts may be more suitable for men, some more for women, and some equally for either, I suggest they should be marked "M", "F", or "M/F" (or "F/M if you prefer!)

Secret gifts Dec 2, 2007

I personally agree with Oliver, otherwise everyone should bring as many presents as the number of partecipants which seems to be pretty high... moreover participants who intend to bring a present shoud let the others know in advance. In this way it is much simplericon_smile.gif

Neutral secret gifts Dec 2, 2007

Well, in response to Jack, I invite anyone choosing a gift to bring to make it equally suitable for men and women. So, no make-up, socks, ties or handbags, but perhaps books, chocolates, games, and lots more ideas beyond my currently limited imagination!

Big Santa bag Dec 2, 2007

Thank you so much for this suggestion, Oliver - what a good idea!

I happen to have a big (huge) stocking at home for similar purposes which I am happy to bring along.

Also please don't forget the candles, biscuits and other items that make the event a bit more festive.

I have some candle holders which I can bring along, but unfortunately no time to bake any biscuits...

See you all soon!
