Comment: "Actually, it was the liquidación that was bothering me, since I'd seen it as "adjustment" in an insurance dictionary, which confused me a bit, franquicia is easy (I put excess) - it's also in the glossaries over and over.
Anyway, thanks a lot everyone for suggesting settlement - I had a bit of a block!"

: In all my insurance experience, I have never come across "siniestro" as meaning "total loss". This is normally "perdida total" in Spanish (sorry about the missing accent!)
