Luego de leer esa traducción tan bella de los Proverbios, confirmo que \"empeñar nuestra palabra\" es una alternativa razonable, pues se habla de salir fiador y dar promesa.
Puesto nuevamente en comunicación Echenique con Orbegoso, éste firmó un papel de garantía; “Por ésta y en virtud de las facultades de que me ha investido la Nación, prometo un eterno olvido a los señores jefes y oficiales que engañados se hayan unido a los sediciosos y vuelvan a sus deberes: les prometo restituir sus empleos y concederles además los premios a que se hagan acreedores. Empeño mi palabra y en ella la de la Nación. Restitúyase el Perú a su antiguo régimen; gobiernen las leyes y en medio del horror y de la sangre, abrazémonos [sic] recordando que somos peruanos.
