1987-2025: I started to translate when professional translators still used classical typewriters. Back then, clients would come to my home office to pick up their translation and would often stay on for hours talking about the nature of the document they had just had translated.
Thirty-eight years translating and proofreading documents to the tune of around one million words per year… and still counting at the rate of thousands of words day after day. Thus, I may claim that I earned well every inch of my language diplomas and my Bachelor of Arts degree in Germanic Philology (majoring in English) and French Philology studies at the Universidad de La Laguna in Spain from 1978 to 1984.
I translate from German, English, and French into Spain Spanish as my native language, and also into neutral or LATAM Spanish.
Experience has taught me that translating should be the result of a reflection about the effects words will have on readers, capturing their attention through the natural flow of ideas and wise word choices and phrasing. My aim is to move them to keep reading and understand the reason the document was created and what it means to them in terms of action, reaction, knowledge gathering or useful information.
My translation services are aimed specifically at technical and manufacturing companies and private clients who wish to count on a translator with an extensive experience and a proven capacity for immediate response at affordable prices negotiated directly with the translator. Each one of my translations is checked, rechecked, and proofread internally by a second translator before delivery. All-in-all, we review every document about six times.
Specializing in mechanical engineering, technical documents, chemical industry, corporate documents and marketing, as a philologist I also specialize in words and in the culture, technologies and human endeavors words convey. For this reason, I strive to cover other areas as well, such as musical instruments and sound technologies, SaaS, concrete manufacturing, general supermarket products, business intelligence services, etc.
I can only welcome the technological innovations that have made possible the wonder of translations done with AI assistance, a powerful tool in the hands of a language professional. However, AI's results are only apparently 100% correct, as they are loaded with inconsistencies and both minor and major flaws. For this reason, if you have already translated your document or your website with the use of this technology, I can provide you with the edition service needed to bring the initial AI-output to a high-quality translation standard. During this task, first I focus on familiarizing myself with each client's products and services through preliminary research, keeping terminological consistency by creating a term database. Afterward, I review the artificially created text to add idiomatic value, coherence, and a natural flow to the sequence of automatically translated sentences and paragraphs.
My translation-memory and money-saving tools are SDL TRADOS Studio 2021, memoQ 10.2 and Across 7.0. By using them systematically in each assignment, I create extensive translation memories and deliver terminological consistency along with prices that reflect the real translation effort with automatic discounts. I also work regularly with advanced cloud-based CAT platforms such as XTM Cloud, Lokalise, Smartling and Phrase.
On the personal lifelong education front, I have been studying Danish and Norwegian for some years now, and keep on studying them daily. So far, this is giving me access to the culture, the press and the audiovisual media of the Scandinavian world and is expanding my ability to research and find information for my translations in general. This educational effort is complemented by the deepening of my knowledge about my own mother tongue through the daily reading and lexical analyses of the Mexican, Colombian and Argentinean press.
