que penetró hasta la conciencia del hombre.
To "bring it home" as an expresion denotes the ultimate penetration into a person's soul or conscience. "El hombre" refers to men as an entity in the context in which I wrote it. I allude the older Spanish of the 19th century which it is still used in many parts of the Spanish Bible (Reina-Valera version).

traída a la consciencia de un hombre
no creo que "bring home" deba ser traducido literalmente. Podrías si acaso decir "llevada a la conciencia del hombre" - "haciendo que el hombre tome conciencia de ello".
