I specialize in
creative translation, tourism, nutrition/culinary arts, and religion, although as you can see below I've worked in many other fields, such as medical or fashion, translating into Spanish (for Spain or a neutral variant). I am very skilled in creative translation, and like to see myself as a "word smith."

How I work

I value professionalism, as well as a good client-translator relationship. Clients often mention the ease, pleasure, and satisfaction they experience working with me, and then tell me how much they liked my translation.

I strive to maintain the author's voice, keeping his/her style in the translation as much as possible. I have high standards of what I consider a good translation, and have participated in the creation of the still unpublished ASTM Guide to Quality Assurance in Translation (USA). The highlight in this Guide is the "specifications" approach: talk to the client beforehand, and make sure both parties are aware of all parameters. Thus you will produce a quality translation that perfectly matches the client's needs.

Who I am

I was born in Spain, but grew up speaking two languages (I have an Argentinian architect mother and a Swedish linguist father), also appreciating the differences between Castillian (Spain) Spanish and Argentinean Spanish. I have had my basic education in Swedish (the first 15 years), and then at the university level in Spanish (writing, critique, and research at RESAD, and nutrition at UNED), and English (Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies at Brigham Young University in Utah, USA - living in the US for seven semesters). My BA in Linguistics at BYU I earned with University Honors, finishing as Cum Laude. I have therefore a deep knowledge of the three languages with which I work.

Aside from translation, I have studied compared religions, literature, music, theatre, gemmology, alternative healing techniques, vegetarian cuisine, and genealogy, taking the classes in my different languages. I also speak German, Italian, French, and (read) Biblical Hebrew. That's a great asset when translating tourist guides, which mention those countries whose languages I speak and often have visited! As for religions, I specialize in Christianity (LDS, Catholic, and neutral) but have studied Judaism in depth, and have investigated the beliefs of multiple others, including Islam and Hinduism.

I have been working as a freelancer since 1999, registered as such with the Spanish tax office (Hacienda). I am a member of ATA (American Translators Association), certified in the English into Spanish language pair. I also have liability insurance, which is actually not very frequent among translators outside of the US.

My experience

In recent years I have translated five novels (among them Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie for Dalmatian Press in USA, 2004), a Children's Bible Storybook (135,000 words), three children's storybooks, 21 tourist guides, tourist journals, articles for the America's Cup of sailing, technical manuals (electrical appliances),
press notes, advertisements, recipes, and websites from the food industry, among others. For a more detailed list, please visit my website:

Do you think I might be the translator for your text? Email me your text for a time and price estimate. I am professional, pleasant, creative, and dynamic. My deadlines are always met. I guarantee confidentiality on my part, even if you choose another translator.

I work with Trados Studio 2014.

When it is said,
Some say.

I say it just
Begins to live
That day
