gene mapping

GBK English to French Science Genetics
About "KOG team questions": http://www.proz.com/topic/112658
Determination of the relative positions of genes on a DNA molecule (chromosome or plasmid) and of the distance, in linkage units or physical units, between them.
Example sentences:
Over the last decade, there has been marked progress in gene mapping in man and some animals. Advances in gene mapping have also touched fur-bearing animals: the genetic map of mink consists of 74 genes marking all chromosomes, except the Y, and the fox map contains 35 genes marking 15 of 16 autosomes and the X chromosome. (AgBiotechNet)
Pioneering gene mapping studies into the genomes of fishes will only serve as the starting point for more detailed studies into the function of these genomes. Future research directed at understanding the mechanisms of gene actions and interactions will benefit all areas of biology, including ecology, ethology, evolution, and physiology. (CAT.INIST)
Somatic cell hybrid (SCH) panels and radiation hybrid (RH) panels are powerful resources for comparative gene mapping because gene assignments are made without the detection of genetic polymorphism as needed for linkage mapping. (Genome Research)

Discussion

SJLD Dec 10, 2008:
I would agree with "cartographie génétique" but since I do not list either of the above categories as "specialties" (I have too many?) I am unable to participate.
Rather ridiculous situation, isn't it?
marie-christine périé Dec 10, 2008:
seconded! totally agree with SJLD about CAT INIST!
SJLD Dec 10, 2008:
translations on the CAT-INIST site Just as a general warning, these are among the worst medical translations you can find on the internet and in my view are quite unreliable, as they do not reflect correct and/or common usages.

Cartographie génétique

Definition from Wikipedia:
Example sentences:
(Agence Science Presse)
Connaissances : Cartographie génétique, abord des maladies à hérédité complexe (INSERM)

Cartographie génétique

Definition from Wikipedia:

Note from asker:
In this case it's a medical opinion that happens to be a report, but the essential meaning is that it's an opinion.
Would you say "The drawer is full of medical opinions" or "full of medical reports"? I'm not saying "opinion" is really bad, but here it's a physical thing: "Adjunto Dictamen Médico"
There is no drawer full of them. Don't be silly.
I have to agree with Lester here. First of all, they ARE talking about something physical attached, and an opinion is something you think, while a report is something you write and hand over. Second, semantically (psycholinguistically?) speaking, for the purposes of Ana's translated document, a report is going to carry more (psychological) weight than an opinion.
Thanks Linda! Maybe I'm not so silly after all:) Google "Attached medical report" - 6300 Results "Attached medical opinion" - 20 (authentic) results

Mapping ou cartographie génétique

Definition from CAT -INIST:
Terme anglais utilisé en Fr
Example sentences:
(CAT- inist)
