Hi Francesca,
I agree with Mihaela. Abbyy Fine Reader 8 is very useful. You can download the trail version and in a few seconds it will convert your pdf into a doc format.

problems with abby | May 2, 2007 |
Hi, thank you all for replying. I am trying to download the trial version of Abbyy but when i click on SAVE, it won't work. A window opens saying it is not possible to save because the path could not being recognised or something like that. Should i click "Extract" instead of save when i do the download?

I use this program too (about 90 USD to buy but you can try it for free, though limited to 3 pages at a time). It does an excellent job with 'native' PDFs and a passable OCR job with scanned PDFs, depending on the quality.

This has been discussed countless times - each week, someone asks about this. Please search the forum before asking an elementary question like this one - all of the different ways to work with PDFs have been discussed extensively.
If you search the article knowledge base, you will also find several useful articles on this subject.

Solid converter | May 2, 2007 |
Hi Fran,
I have been trying these free pdf to word converting programs for months. There were always hickups. About two months ago, I downloaded Solid Converter. Costs about 50 USD, I think. That works very well. It also has a trial option, which is limited to five pages or something. But at least that gives you an idea whether it works or not. Has worked fine with all my pdf files though. Good luck, and let us know which one you have chosen!

Sounds like a Windows problem. In pre-Vista, I would save to a simple folder like My Documents\Downloads, then, expand the file you downloaded into, say, a subfolder called Abby. Can you emulate that approach in Vista? | | | patyjs Mexico Local time: 06:11 Spanish to English + ... Try copying it to a Word doc. | May 2, 2007 |
Hi Fran,
Here's what I do. Open the PDF file and hit select all from the edit menu. Copy this and then paste it to a blank Word doc. This always works for me but you have to be careful because sometimes some of the formatting is lost, like indentations or special characters. I usually have both docs open side by side to avoid slip-ups.
Hope this helps.....good luck!
