She pursued it. My dream was to become a clinical psychologist. I pursued it. Then I married a diplomat and ended up in Poland for five years, and so, a dream that I never dared dream, became a reality: the opportunity ...to worm my way into the psyche of a foreign country for a few years. Soon after we arrived there, a book project fell into my lap, and its success became the platform from which I launched a second project. Two books and three film projects later, back in South Africa, I ended up among the language practitioners, and 18 months later, I went to Franschhoek to attend a fiction editing workshop, because I will die if the bleak boredom of medicine and insurance were to consume my professional life completely. The course presenter, Izak de Vries, is well-known in South Africa, and his interest in my work gave me a new lease on my language practice.
