Having spent her final year on an Erasmus Mundus scholarship at Heidelberg University in Germany, Nicole accepted a position in ...the Netherlands as Junior Prospective Civil-Law Notary near Enschede. In 1996, she was accepted to a mid-sized notarial law firm near Waalwijk, working her way up in the firm to become a Senior Prospective Civil-Law Notary and Interim Deputy. During her 9-year career in the Netherlands, she completed several courses in post-graduate training, including Legal English for Dutch Notaries, New Dutch Law of Inheritance, Dutch Rent Law, Dutch Tax Law, and Dutch Alimony Law.
Robert A. Kleemaier, B.A., B.Tr., C.T., (STIBC certified & NGTV associate), received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Victoria in Canada before accepting the Rotary Foundation ambassadorial scholarship to Heidelberg to study German history and politics. It was after his year in Germany that he first began to consider applied linguistics as a career option and received a bachelor of translation degree (EN/NL/DE) in 2000 from the Department of Translation and Interpreting of the Faculty of International Business and Communication at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Over the next couple of years, he was sworn in at the District Court of Breda as a certified translator and worked in various translation positions throughout the Netherlands, including at The Hague.
In 2002, Nicole and Robert took the step of moving their young family from the Netherlands to Canada where they began their own translation agency in the beautiful Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of British Columbia. Together, they have worked to translate, edit, and proofread several million words covering a wide range of texts. Over the years, their focus shifted to legal texts in general and Dutch notarial instruments in particular.
Today, Nicole and Robert form the backbone of De Notaris Vertalingen • DNV Translations. Nicole works as Senior Editor and Robert works as Senior Translator.More Less |
