Description:

Regular expressions are special rules that allow us to find a text meeting specified conditions and do something useful with it. In memoQ, this “something useful” may mean, among others things, conversion to a tag or inclusion/exclusion of a text for translation.

This presentation will show how to use the “Regex text” file filter to import and translate complex text files (e.g., programming languages source code or .ini files), and how to use the “Regex tagger” feature to convert some parts of text for translation into tags (and why it is needed). Some very basic introduction to common components and syntax of regular expressions will be included.

Marek Pawelec graduated in Molecular Biology at the Jagiellonian University in 1992 and worked as researcher at faculties of Medicine and Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland. In 2001 he began to work as a full time English to Polish freelance translator: started with literature, later also technical translations of medical, biochemical and chemical texts. Translated 31 novels and several millions pages of medical texts, mainly medical equipment manuals, but also a lot of pharmacology and clinical trials-related texts. Experienced computer aided translation (CAT) software user and trainer. Certified memoQ trainer. Presented lectures on several translation conferences. Teaches on practical aspects of freelance translation, CAT tools and translation related software. Interested in technical communication and terminology management. Marek Pawelec ukończył studia z biologii molekularnej na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim w 1992 r. Pracował jako asystent na wydziałach Medycyny i Chemii Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. W roku 2001 rozpoczął pełnowymiarową pracę w charakterze tłumacza z języka angielskiego, początkowo tłumacząc teksty literackie, później również teksty techniczne z zakresu medycyny, chemii i biochemii. Przetłumaczył 31 powieści i kilka milionów stron tekstów medycznych, głównie instrukcji obsługi sprzętu medycznego i materiałów z zakresu badań klinicznych. Doświadczony użytkownik oraz instruktor oprogramowania do wspomagania tłumaczeń (CAT). Certyfikowany trener programu memoQ. Prezentował na kilku konferencjach tłumaczeniowych, prowadzi zajęcia z praktycznych aspektów zawodu tłumacza, oprogramowania CAT oraz innych programów przydatnych w tłumaczeniach. Zainteresowany komunikacją techniczną i zarządzaniem terminologią.
