I'm an ATA Certified Translator of Spanish into English with over 25 years' experience in translating and interpreting.
Every document I translate reads as if it were originally written in English. In every translation project, I draw on my field experience and also carefully research the specifics of the topic before I start translating. I have a home office with an off-site backup service, and I subscribe to the only encrypted and HIPAA-compliant email service in the United States, for protection of confidentiality of patient medical information transmitted online. I retain translated documents for six weeks after a project is completed, then I remove them from my hard drive.
I have certificates in Medical and Legal Translation from the University of Minnesota. My primary specialization is in medical, pharmaceutical, and life sciences. I also translate civil legal documents, depositions and contracts, and environmental impact documents.
I taught Medical Translation for New York University. Specialists and my colleagues at Mayo Clinic voted me recipient of their Saidy Award award for outstanding work in translation and interpreting. My translation of a 600-page book on molecular phylogeny is in the US Library of Congress.
In two previous careers, I was a medical laboratory technologist and a computer systems analyst in a teaching and research hospital. I lived in South America for 17 years, where Spanish was my everyday language and I was part of the local culture. In Argentina, I translated scientific, technical, and manufacturing materials and taught English for Spanish-speaking computer technicians.
I am a member of ATA, UMTIA, MATI, IAPTI, and MENSA (International High-IQ organization). My rates are for estimation purposes only, and may be adjusted higher or lower upon review of the job.
