Bio: An accomplished Linguist and Trainer. She was the Chief of the Language Services of the United Nations Mission in the DRCongo (MONUSCO) for 7 years. Prior to that she worked as a Translator and then as a Terminologist for the European Parliament in Luxembourg. She was also a Junior Professional Fellow for the United Nations University-Office in New York (UNU-ONY); a Researcher at NEAD in Norwich (UK) and a Teacher in both public and private schools in the UK. She has 20 years working experience as translator/interpreter in different areas, over 7 years with the UN with over 1000 pages published in UN documents. She is a passionate advocate of Development Studies, Fair Trade, Respect for Diversity issues and Multiculturalism.

She holds an MA by Research in Translation Studies and an MA in Modernism, both from the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich, UK. She also holds a degree in Modern Foreign Languages from the Università degli Studi di Salerno (IT) and various teaching certificates.

She is a MCIL, Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, London and was one of the speakers at the 2012 Jiamcatt meeting held at the European Union, Luxembourg.

After seven years at MONUSCO and 20 years overall working in the language business, she devoted herself to freelance work and created her own online, independent language business, www.mariatranslations.com.
