My name is Erik and I am a Norwegian freelancer with more than 14 years of translation experience. I enjoy my role as a technical translator, but also offer all kinds of linguistic services including proofreading, editing and interpreting as well as other localization/regional consulting services. Because of my unique, international background, I am bilingual and have been fluent in both English and Norwegian my whole life. I was born in Norway to a Norwegian mother and a British father. We moved to the United States when I was just one year old. I returned to Norway when I was 16 years old and graduated high school four years later. At the age of 20 I returned to the U.S. where I studied computer engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Of course, I eventually returned to my beloved homeland, Norway. That is, until I met the love of my life in Thailand. We got married in Thailand, and actually chose to live in Norway for the first 8 years of our marriage. I now live and operate in Thailand, and am speaking Thai quite well, and making the necessary connections with native Thai translators here so I can broaden my service offering to also include Eng - Thai and Thai - English translation services.
In the almost 12 years I've been translating on a freelance basis I have had the opportunity to work for clients all over the globe in a wide range of subject areas. I have specialized in translation of technical documents, including user manuals, for consumer electronics as well as manuals for the industrial sector. I have also specialized in localization of software for PCs such as antivirus suites, apps for smart phones and smart TVs including games, as well as localization of major websites which need to be localized and constantly maintained over the years as new content is published.
I have EXCELLENT computer skills and vast experience with all sorts of software packages. I use several CAT tools on a regular basis, and am familiar with nearly all commercially available CAT Tools as well as other translation-related software. My favorite CAT tools to work with are SDL Trados Studio 2019, MemoQ Translator Pro, and Across Translator Edition 7.
My rates are admittedly not the lowest - I think if you shop around, you'll find they are among the highest for my language combination. I justify this by always delivering an impeccable translation the first time, on time, EVERY time. Translation is like with anything else - you get what you paid for! If your translation is not that important, I suggest you look into hiring one I've my many desperate and willing colleagues. However, if you want to bypass all the pain and anxiety associated with poor translations and late deliveries and impossible situations, I suggest you contact me to inquire about availability. The sooner the better, with as much advance notice as possible, because I do have quite a full client roster. Nonetheless, I always enjoy making new connections and learning about new opportunities and look for to hear from you soon. I promise to give you a speed reply! Whether you choose me, or somebody else, good luck with your project!
