Rafa Lombardino  \"Organizer\" \"Reporter\" \"Photographer\" It's great to see more people showing some interest! Do you have any recommendations as far as venues? I'm staying at the Red Lion hotel... Anything in the area comes to mind? Let me know so I can make the reservations! :-)  y
French4Beth   Which Portland are you talking about? OR, ME, CT...  n
XNicole Schnell  \"Photographer\" Hi Rafa, I will be there (well, I live here) and I am so looking forward to meeting you!  y
Tegan Raleigh  \"Photographer\" I am hosting an exchange student from Bahrain until the 23rd, and I'm not sure I'll be able to make it. But I love Portland! You guys should go to Powell's City of Books! They have great foreign language sections.  n
Lori Larsen-Hoff   That sounds like a great idea. I can pop down the road and attend! Look forward to it!  y
Susan Detlefsen  \"Reporter\" Is Rose and Thistle the place? And what time? I will be in Portland that day, but have a meeting from 10 to 11;30 or so. I could come after that.   m
Virginia canvas   Hello Rafa! I think this sounds like a fun idea. I shared your notice with the Associated Linguists of Oregon, so we may start seeing more responses from local translators and interpreters. As to location, Widmer Gasthaus is a popular pub in that area.
Ebru Ozgen Oglesbay   I live 180 miles from Portland and I would love to be there. I'll try to keep 23rd free. I'm not sure though, I'm extremely busy working on a master's degree at the moment. Widmer is one of my favorite spots! But I'll think of other options...
Shelley Fairweather-Vega   Hurray! I'm looking forward to meeting you all.  y
Teresa Reinhardt   I've been lurking since I don't know if I can make it. Could anyone carpool (Corvallis), and - where are you meeting? // OK, couldn't see this before; I can't do Sunday (got two jobs to finish)  n

Translators in Portland, Oregon May 23, 2007

What about a get-together in Portland, Oregon on July 23? I'll be in town for a couple of days and it would be great to meet translators living in the area.

I'm staying at the Red Lion hotel, across from the Convention Center, and we could meet for lunch or dinner at the hotel or at one of the restaurants at the Lloyd Center.

If you're a translator living or just passing through Portland and you're free on July 23, sign up and let's share our professional experiences durin

Great! :-) Jul 6, 2007

It's great to see more people showing some interest! I'm really excited about meeting you and exchanging some ideas about our crazy (but passionate) routines!

Do you have any recommendations as far as venues? I'm staying at the Red Lion hotel and I'll have to count on my two feet for transportation... Does anything in the area come to mind? I know there are some nice restaurants and a mall nearby, but you locals should know a lot more than I do!

Portland! Jul 7, 2007

Thanks for organizing this meeting, Rafa! It will be so much fun in our beautiful Portland. There are so many places to recommend! My husband would like to attend, too. There will be space for 3 additional persons in our car. NW Portland is gorgeous, so is sitting outdoors at the Marina by the river. Maybe you should start some kind of survey (smokers / non-smokers, local beer and wine / cocktails, local food / exotic)
I am looking forward to meeting colleagues!

Spouses/Friends welcome! Jul 7, 2007

Hi, Nicole!

Sure your husband can come! Mine would like to go too, but it will depend on what time we'll meet. To tell you the truth, I'm only going to Portland because he has a Linux convention to go to, so I decided to organize this get-together so I'll have something fun to do as well.

Ideas Jul 7, 2007

I'd love to hear more ideas. As Virginia told me by email, the public transportation system is great there, so I'll try to look into it depending on at what place we decided to meet. However, I have to tell you guys that I get lost very easily! LOL

Anyway, my ideal place would be a nice, laid-back pub or restaurant where we could sit down to talk, have some drinks, and maybe something to eat without being hurried by waiters. I sure like talking a lot!...

Nice, laid-back pub? Jul 13, 2007

Then I can recommend the Rose and Thistle Restaurant and Pub. Great beer, very decent food, beer garden, very nice staff.

Perfect! Jul 13, 2007

I just googled the location suggested by Nicole and it's pretty much a walking distance from my hotel (5 mins by car.) It sounds perfect, 'cause that's exactly the atmosphere I like. If everybody else agrees, I can call them on Monday or Tuesday and make reservations.

Guys, please confirm that you definitely wanna go grab some lunch at Thistle Restaurant and Pub on Monday. However, if a weekday is not good for you, we can definitely do it on Sunday, July 22nd.

Let me know what you prefer by Monday, July 16th, so I can make arrangements on Tuesday, at the latest.

I'm so looking forward to meeting you guys!icon_biggrin.gif

Great! Jul 13, 2007

When are we going to meet? Noon, 1 pm or later? If we meet on Monday, my husband will be there at 7 pm. Regarding Sunday or Monday, I am flexible. Starting Tue, I am booked for a monstrous job, though.
