Swedish term

ET

Swedish to English Medical Medical (general) Therapy/rehabilitation for Down syndrome
This abbreviation occurs in a medical chart for a patient suffering from Down syndrome, together with other abbreviations such as TT ("talterapi") or FT ("fysikalisk terapi"). Obviously, ET is another type of therapy (as appears from the context), but there is no way to tell which. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Discussion

Cristian Iscrulescu (asker) Aug 8, 2011:
I found it! It's ergoterapi, so the English would be 'ergotherapy' - the closest answer was 'occupational therapy'. Thank you eneryone!
Tania McConaghy Aug 7, 2011:
any more context? how old is the person and how often does ET occur?
any clue about what ET involves eg other health care professionals?
Åsa Schoening Aug 6, 2011:
Epilepsy therapy for some w Down's syndrome Many with Down's syndrome suffer from epilepsy. Epilepsy therapy could therefore be a possibility, although it would obviously not pertain to everyone with Down's syndrome. Can you tell from the text whether it'd be applicable? From http://epilepsy.about.com/od/symptomsandcauses/a/downsyndrom... Epilepsy is a common feature of Down syndrome, and the prevalence of epilepsy advances with age. The onset of seizures can occur at two stages of life: either at a very young age or in the third decade of life. At a younger age, individuals with Down syndrome are susceptible of developing infantile spasms (IS) and tonic-clonic seizure with myoclonus. Individuals in the third decade of life are more prone to developing simple partial or complex partial seizures in addition to tonic-clonic seizures. It is estimated that 46% of Down's patients older than the age of 50 have a diagnosis of epilepsy. Additionally, some cases of seizure onset occuring later in life (after the age of 50 years) have also been reported, although this is not seen as frequently.
Cristian Iscrulescu (asker) Aug 6, 2011:
A typo is quite unlikely, as the term occurs several times in the document. Anyway, all the other abbreviations (such as FT) are in Swedish, so I expect this one to be too.

occupational therapy

could it be a typo for AT (arbetsterapi) as physiotherapy(PT),occupational therapy(OT) and speech and language therapy(SLT) is often mentioned together.

environmental therapy

My spontaneous guess - and I found this, from link below:
Trisomy 21 or Down syndrome (DS) is a complex syndrome, of genetic origin with multiple and variable neurobiological and neuropsychological manifestations. DS patients have consistent signs of brain damage along their lives, but understanding the biology of DS is complicated due to the extraordinary heterogeneity of the phenotypic signs. Thus, treatment of DS mental retardation poses significant challenges for clinicians and scientists. The review addresses the classical pharmacological and environmental treatments and also critically reviews the new possibilities that are emerging from the exciting advances in gene or cell therapy.

I withdraw my answer, as I was trying to decipher ET as an English abbreviation. My apologies.
