: Yes, but in Europa if yu putt in yr a/c a 30 days post-dated check, yr bank is entitled to cash it "immediately"..

Gracias, Thierry, I suppose it can work differently in different places, but it is a commonly used device. I've had banks even cash checks that were unsigned.

They are talking about advance payment at start of work. The balance to be paid within 30 days of completion, a fairly standard arrangement.
