French term

capacité tampon

French to English Tech/Engineering Patents radiation detection senso
Hello,

"le dispositif de stockage et d’alimentation permet une alimentation régulière à débit sensiblement constant des matières contaminées sur la face supérieure
du premier convoyeur, et présente une capacité tampon."

"buffer capacity" has to do with pH, I doubt it is the right term here.

the subject is radioactivity of contaminated matter, the way this matter is sorted after being outputted by the storage device onto a conveyor belt...

It is only mentioned once in my doc

Thanks for your help :)

Quite so Computer memory, war zones, states and railway carriages can all have buffers...

Buffer The specific use of the term "buffering" in relation to pH doesn't exclude the general use of the term in other contexts.

buffer capacity

"Buffer" is often used to indicate a temporary storage means, e.g. buffer memory in computers, buffer storage area for sorting machines, etc.

agree kashew : I've seen "buffer tank" but this must be the best translation.

a (debit equalizing) buffer zone

"le dispositif de stockage et d’alimentation permet une alimentation régulière à débit sensiblement constant des matières contaminées sur la face supérieure du premier convoyeur, et présente une capacité tampon."

"... and acts as a (debit equalizing) buffer zone"

This is another option if you want to avoid the association with chemistry; but then even "buffer zone" is used elsewhere, for a "neutral territory" interposed between two warring sides.
