Discussion

Malcolm Rowe Aug 5, 2021:
How about "familial guardians"? When I suggested "legal guardians" on a similar thread on WordReference, it was pointed out to me that , while an "ascendant" is related to the person in question, a legal guardian is not necessarily related to them. I was therefore wondering if "familial guardians" might be an appropriate translation for "ascendants" in this context.
Presumably, to give consent , they would have to be in a position of guardianship, but to be an "ascendant", they have to be family.
An alternative thought I had was "senior family members".
Or simply "family members"

I also received the broader suggestion "ascendant relatives" which could refer to parents or possibly other blood relatives of next generation with authority to consent to the marriage where the bride and groom are minors. Thanks again."
