In the same context as my previous question several minutes ago, can "jouer cartes sur table" mean "they placed their cards on the table"?

Could you possibly translate the sentence as: M-F played open handedly at the meeting and having shown their hand they scouped the deal....This allows you to say that they showed their position on the "deal" on the table and having done so won the contract etc (all figurative of course. Hope that helps
