writeaway
: sounds good, but could depend on the variety of English needed (Indian, UK, OZ, US)-assuming we all use this expression. of course have to add that there are any number of ways to translate this........

Routine had killed the magic of the first days

writeaway
: a bit over over-translation. how do we know it was routine that killed it and how do we know only the first 5 days were magic?

"Therapists need to be solid, emotionally and physically, to take on the complicated emotional and intellectual lives of the people sitting across from them. They need to be involved, but not to the point that their own emotional well-being is compromised by the sadness or turmoil of the people who they are treating. They need to know their own limitations and set limits on the extent that they provide care, lest they be sucked-dry by the process and be unable to be of any use to anyone, including themselves."

Context

Anyone else who remembers that advert from the cinema will probably understand why I laughed when I saw this thread.
Apologies for the irrelevant intervention.
