Discussion

Kari Foster Sep 27, 2010:
"La framboise est ponctuelle..." "...et le citron, pressé"
Anyone else who remembers that advert from the cinema will probably understand why I laughed when I saw this thread.
Apologies for the irrelevant intervention.
shweta kheria (asker) Sep 27, 2010:
The document Yes, it is the same document. No one is plagiarizing it. I have been approached to translate this very document.
writeaway Sep 26, 2010:
@Travelin Ann I inadvertently found that and posted the context. Yes, it has to be the same document or someone is heavily plagiarizing it.
Jessica Noyes Sep 26, 2010:
Era When was source document published? This would help select the ideal expression.

he'd squeezed everything out of it.

the image of a lemon being pressed and the rind thrown away, to say he'd got everything out of it he could.
Peer comment(s):

agree writeaway : sounds good, but could depend on the variety of English needed (Indian, UK, OZ, US)-assuming we all use this expression. of course have to add that there are any number of ways to translate this........

Routine had killed the magic of the first days
Peer comment(s):

neutral writeaway : a bit over over-translation. how do we know it was routine that killed it and how do we know only the first 5 days were magic?

he felt sucked dry

"I feel sucked dry! Any interst I have is stupid or not worth his time. Things that are important to me, ie getting out of debt or planning a vacation, are not important enough to put time or money into...he just wants everything done on a whim. I used to be spontaneous and fun, but after kids one of us had to grow up."

"Therapists need to be solid, emotionally and physically, to take on the complicated emotional and intellectual lives of the people sitting across from them. They need to be involved, but not to the point that their own emotional well-being is compromised by the sadness or turmoil of the people who they are treating. They need to know their own limitations and set limits on the extent that they provide care, lest they be sucked-dry by the process and be unable to be of any use to anyone, including themselves."

Context
