Hi Sven,
Since I switched to Firefox spyware like this is a thing of the past.
Lots of other reasons I like Firefox better too, multiple pages in one taskbar page, word search in browser page (add on), it’s faster, goggle search bar incorporated, built in pop-up buster and easy-to-use privacy/adblock filter.

About removing this spyware
I managed to remove Abetterinternet adware from Explorer by following instructions on a PC health forum, can’t remember which sorry. I think I used HijakThis, but I can't remember as I just don't need to use progs like that or Adaware/Spybot anymore.
You should be able to find something here:

Btw: thanks for the tip about Jv16 Power tools, much better than Norton

I use Firefox too, but Firefox does not prevent infection by ABetterInternet.Aurora, it only stops the advertising caused by it. One still loses bandwidth and CPU capacity.
Will try your other suggestion later today. | |

1) close all programs that you can possibly close
2) start > programs > accessories > System Tools > System Information
3) look in: Running Tasks
4) look in: Drivers
5) look in Startup Programs
Do you see anything unusual?
maybe you already spot the possible intruder, if not:
5) start your webbrowser
What else starts running besides your browser?

If everything seems to be quite ok, then the spyware might have added to an executable or - I am not sure if this would work - a dll.
If such is the case reïnstalling your browser might help. Most probably, the designers of this spyware will have thought of this squashing technique; hence it will not work.
I know this ain't easy, but the approach I just described is the only way I know of, that may prevent the ultimate - you're going to hate this - format c: and install your OS and applications from original CDs.

Search all files for abetterinternet, aurora, and any other names you can think of that might be associated. I’m pretty sure there was one called adaware or .ad or something like that. In any case if you’re hunting down the sucker you’ll know what you’re looking for.
From what I can remember there is a dll or something that’s continuing to create you’re prob.
You won’t be able to delete the file straight off unless you deactivate the system configuration restore feature which is a pain, and even then I’m not sure because it’s being used by the system from startup (sneaky huh?).
But what you should be able to do is change the name of the file, by clicking slowly twice on the name (or right-click/rename). After changing the name, you reboot the system, the file with the changed name will no longer be able to load and you can now trash it.
Good luck.
