Thank you, Stefanie, what a beautiful, touching song and a what a good singer Milla is!

I love Russian folk songs, especially the gipsy ones, love Paolo Conte's Azzurro, but my all time favourite is The Joker by the Steve Miller Band

I heard it the day I knew I was expecting my child, so every time I listen to this song, I feel the same strange, strong, exhilarating feeling of something new and marvellous happening to me.

And another, wonderful song is Cloudbusting by Kate Bush

I Love the 80's! Aug 9, 2007

It's funny to find this thread on a Thursday, 'cause I just finished listening to my favorite radio show and spent a full hour with a smile on my face...

Globo FM--one of the most popular Brazilian radio stations that I stream on my computer almost every day--plays a full hour of Brazilian 80's songs on Thursdays, and this kind of music always takes me to a happy place 'cause I grew up in the 80's in Brazil. It's kind of funny to hear these songs now as an adult, 'cause there were many double-meaning lyrics or difficult words that back then, as a 5 year old, I could not get right.

Besides this little trip down memory lane, any song by Simply Red always puts me in a great mood. They're my favorite band and their range is so vast that I get to listen to dance music, sugary ballads, bluesy tunes, reggae, and everything in between when I have my Simply Red playlist on.

Now, when it's time to kick the chair out of the way and start dancing in the middle of the office, nothing can be better than I WILL SURVIVE, Gloria Gaynor style!

There's also a fun cover recording of that by Los Ciegos del Barrio. Not nearly as energetic, but I enjoy it.

don't kill me for this! Aug 9, 2007

Ok folks, don't kill me now, but here's a crazy song that will have your tush move no matter what, I tell ya!

This song is TOTALLY crazy, it's the Ukraine song that took part to the latest Eurovision Song Contest. The singer is dressed as a drag queen with a glittery Smurfs-like hat and what looks to be a dead fox around his neck. The lyrics are totally silly, but hey, you either like the catchy tune or you h

The lyrics are totally silly, but hey, you either like the catchy tune or you hate it. The first time I listened to it I thought "what the heck is this??", but then I found myself tapping my foot to the catchy tune!

Take a look at this link:

P.S.: look at the guy's long legs. Dang it, some men look really good in stockings and high heels! It's not fair...

Yo-Yo Ma and Bobby McFerrin Aug 11, 2007

I recently got my hands on Hush, an album bringing cellist Yo-Yo Ma and "vocalizer" McFerrin, and the best piece of the CD is definitely their version of the Musette by J.S. Bach, absolutely hilarious, and technically impressive. First of all I agree w/ Sabina, "Here comes the sun" by Indian-period- Beatles is one of the no. 1 ever.

My ones are:

"Lazing on a Sunday afternoon" by The Queen
"Wake me up before you go-go" by Wham
"Ordinary world" by Duran Duran
"Seasons of love" by Stevie Wonder ('Rent' Soundtrack)

Must be Dire Strait's Aug 22, 2007

"Money for Nothing", its lyrics is hilarious, especially if you think that it's based on a true story.

Apparently, Mark Knopfler one day walked into a store to buy some TV set and one of the guy who was loading some heavy stuff into a truck recognized him and told his pals the way this guy made out millions, "by simply playing guitar on the MTV"

That's the way you do it... money for nothing and chicks for free. Guess it applies to translator as well...

odd choice? Aug 28, 2007

Just wanted to make a quick comment on this.
May be construed as an odd choice ('a song that puts a smile on your face') as it was written about the pain of losing a loved one who dies young.

Anyway, my own contribution would be Crowded House's "Weather with you".
According to rock legend, whenever this song is performed at outdoor festivals, the rain stops and the sun comes out!!

Today Aug 28, 2007

"Today" by Jefferson Airplane...............love it!!!

Today I feel like pleasing you more than before
Today I know what I want to do but I don't know what for
To be living for you is all I want to do
To be loving you it'll all be there when my dreams come true
Today you'll make me say that I somehow have changed
Today you'll look into my eyes, I'm just not the same
To be anymore than all I am would be a lie
I'm so full of love I could burst

I'm so full of love I could burst apart and start to cry
Today everything you want, I swear it all will come true
Today I realize how much I'm in love with you
With you standing here I could tell the world what it means to love
To go on from here I can't use words, they don't say enough
Please, please listen to me
It's taken so long to come true
And it's all for you
all for you....
