Does the demand for translation and subtitling decrease in November, December, and January?

I have been translating for over 40 years and demand for translation has always been extremely variable.

It will depend on the field you work in, your languages, and economic cycles in general.

Some fields definitely do have busy periods, but as a technical translator I've never noticed any particular pattern.

Who knows. Oct 18, 2024

I also see no pattern. In 2020 and 2021 the last 2 quarters were the best, but in 2022 and 2023 it were the first 2 that were the best. It's difficult to draw a line and since we are working alone we are possibly less impacted by economical troubles in the short term (all it takes is 1 or 2 clients with a few large assignments and you have a good month, so to speak). So you basically need some luck from time to time.

Ok. Thanks!

I asked it because in Brazil, December and January are the common vacation period.

Very occasionally my best months of the year have been December and/or August, because almost all the other translators are on holiday and I'm not...

Yes for December Oct 21, 2024

December is typically busy for me, but January isn't. I guess organizations which are doing well tend to spend their budget at the end of the year, while developing new plans for the new year will take some time.
