From a second and third reading after you pointed this out it seems that it is very probable, and it was me who misunderstood it initially, I take most of what I wrote back, with the exception that some who choose to use CAT tools may actually prefer Trados for objective considerations and that the description there applies to most CAT tools anyway; but the point is clear (now).

I think the OP referred to Trados in particular, not CAT tools in general.
I am a huge fan of using Wordfast Pro and I often use it even when the job doesn't require a CAT tool at all. It's nice to have the Japanese and English side by side, and everything is replaced in the original document in seconds. What's not to like? At least Wordfast won't be knocking down my door and stealing my first born for an upgrade every year like some people... *cough*T8DOS*

I think all sensible professionals try their best to be fair to their customers and charge a reasonable total price if some unexpected condition of the job allowed to complete it with a smaller effort. What you describe sounds to me like an honest person.

I agree with every other point, but I am puzzled why using CAT tools would be seen as "zombie like". Using CAT tools is an absolute no-brainer for me. They enable me to translate faster, enable me to refer to legacy reference material and check consistency of terminology while having my own terminology at hand.
I don't understand why anyone would have a problem using CAT tools, that would be positively Luddite!

I am sure some clients would not be too pleased to learn that you are storing their documents on your computer. Maybe this is only a problem for legal translation. Some see no problem with this. Others view this as a complete breach of the obligation of confidentiality.

As I mainly translate technical and commercial documents and not legal ones this point is not really applicable to me. None of the documents I translate are confidential or "restricted access" documents, and if they were, I'm sure I would have to sign an agreement not to disseminate them.
I'm sure my customers are more concerned about me producing consistent, quality translations rather than whether I have some of their non-confidential documents on my computer.
