Hi, How can I transfer funds to Croatia without paying high bank fees ? Example: I transferred EUR 50 to Zagreb and paid in France EUR 15.79 and the colleague in Zagreb paid EUR 10. It makes short translations very difficult if one has to pay 50++% in banking fees. Any ideas ??

I am afraid that payment through online services such as PayPal, Moneybookers and the like is just not an option in Croatia if you are dealing with a professional translator. The reason for that is that Croatian foreign exchange control regulations require companies and professionals to effect and receive payments in foreign currency exclusively by bank transfer. In addition, the Croatian tax administration does not recognize payments through online services as legit. I hope that this will finally change, but for the time being this is the situation we have to cope with.

Therefore, your only option, since payment has to be made by bank transfer, would be to check the applicable bank charges and open an account with a bank charging less. I do not know about the situation in France, but in Croatia the amount of bank charges on international payments varies from one bank to another. This is the reason why I switched to another bank a few years ago, which charges only EUR 5 on international payments.
