This is a research study to test a drug, Boceprevir (Victrelis™), which may be available
by prescription for adults in the United States. Boceprevir has been used to treat adults with Chronic Hepatitis C (CHC). Recent studies have shown that, when used as a standard of care treatment in adults, Boceprevir can suppress the virus to untraceable levels.
Peginterferon alfa-2a and Ribavirin have been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and are available by prescription. To make it easier, we will call the combination of these two drugs "PEG2a/R".
The purpose of this study is to: test the safety and effectiveness of boceprevir in treating chronic hepatitis C virus.
compare the effectiveness of two different treatments for CHC using Boceprevir.
There may be reasons why you are not allowed to take part in this study. Some of these reasons include:
You are less than 18 years of age. You do not have previously documented CHC genotype 1 infection. You have HIV or hepatitis B.

You have previously been treated with an interferon and ribavirin regimen or HCV direct acting anti-viral regimen.
You have had treatment for hepatitis C with any investigational medication. You have participated in any other clinical trial within 30 days of your screening
visit or intend to participate in another clinical trial during participation in this trial.
You have evidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or are under evaluation for HCC.
You have any known malignancy (cancer or a spreading tumor) or a history of malignancy within the past 5 years.
You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant within 6 months after receiving the last dose of study drug.
