INTRO AND GOALS
This document is directed towards IT professionals and iCafé owners that will be installing and configuring PCs for use in internet cafes. The goal of this setup process is to create a reliable shared user PC running the iCafe environment that includes that added software and features in the iCafe bundle. By using Microsoft Forefront and Windows SteadyState, a quality PC experience can be reliably maintained from session to session without have to reinstall or reimage the computer on a regular basis. In addition, the iCafe bundle includes a Billing application that allows you to track and bill for usage on your PCs.
ICAFE SOFTWARE COMPONENTS
The iCafe bundle includes the following components, is it required that you install the Default Settings Tool, the other applications are optional (but we believe they will create a richer end user experience):
1) Microsoft Windows XP XP2
2) Microsoft Office 2007
3) Microsoft Student and Encarta Premium
4) A set of videos aimed at Digital Literacy (Computer Basics, Computer Security, Digital Lifestyles, Productivity Programs and The Internet and the Worldwide Web)
5) A set of videos for to enable new users to learn Windows basics (WindowsStarterVideo)
6) Development tools for software developers (Visual Studio Express with Visual Basic, Visual C# Express, the Microsoft SilverLight SDK and the Microsoft XNA Game SDK for building PC and Xbox games).
7) Microsoft Flight Simulator (Vista versions of Halo 2 and Shadow Run are included for use on a machine running Microsoft Vista)
8) The Shared Access Billing Tool including both an application that runs on an administrator’s machine to monitor usage and a small PC application that runs on each PC to monitor usage and send data to the administrator’s application.
9) The Default Settings tool, an application that sets up desktop icons and configures Internet Explorer to allow users to take advantage of the latest Microsoft online services.
10) The Microsoft Forefront client, virus and malware protection tools to help keep systems secure.
11) Microsoft Windows SteadyState, an application that helps make shared computers easier to set up and maintain for administrators, and more reliable and consistent for computer users.
BASIC PC REQUIREMENTS AND ASSUMPTIONS
User Computer
Processor requirements, a 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system). Memory requirements, 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended; 64 MB minimum required. Disk space requirements, a hard disk with 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space without Windows Disk Protection, or 4.0 GB of available hard disk space with Windows Disk Protection. DVD drive suggested.
LAN with iCafe user machines connected to a router and out to the internet. On the LAN is an administrator machine of similar capabilities to the User Computer that will run the Billing admin application, store images for User machines and optionally have additional maintenance and operations applications.
OVERVIEW OF THE SETUP PROCESS
The general steps are:
1) Set up a machine for the café owners. This PC with run the Billing Application administrative tools and databases and optionally store images for end user machines.
2) Set up a model end user machine
a. Do a clean install of windows creating only the default Administrator account.
b. Log in as the Administrator and install the components you desire from the iCafe software bundle (except for Windows SteadyState). Connect to the internet and download the latest software updates for each component.
c. Configure the client billing application to connect to the owner machine and database.
d. Logged in as the administrator, setup the Windows Live services installed via the Default Settings Tool.
e. Install Windows SteadyState; create a restricted user using SteadyState. Turn off all SteadyState Windows and Feature restrictions for this restricted user.
f. Log in as the restricted user (e.g. icafe user); initiate each application by going through the first time usage experiences and configuration.
g. Log in as Administrator; configure Windows SteadyState restrictions as suggested in this document.
h. Log in as iCafe User, verify the user experience is as desired.
i. Log in as Administrator, turn on Windows Disk Protection to control changes to the PC.
j. Using imaging tools create a snapshot of this environment to archive and to use to easily install other machines.

ВСТУП І ЦІЛІ
Цей документ призначений для фахівців у галузі ІТ та власників iCafé які займатимуться установкою та настроюванням ПК для використання в Інтернет-кафе. Ціллю процесу установки є створення надійного середовища для загальнодоступних користувацьких ПК в iCafe яке передбачає набір додаткового програмного забезпечення та функцій. iCafe пакет. За допомогою Microsoft Forefront та Windows SteadyState якісна робота ПК надійно підтримуватиметься від сеансу до сеансу без потреби повторної установки чи постійного відтворення з образу. Окрім цього, до пакету iCafe входить застосунок для рахунків, який дозволяє виставляти рахунки за використання ПК.
КОМПОНЕНТИ ПРОГРАМНОГО ЗАБЕЗПЕЧЕННЯ ІНТЕРНЕТ-КАФЕ
До пакету iCafe входять перелічені нижче компоненти програмного забезпечення. Необхідно встановити Засіб настройок за промовчанням, установка інших застосунків не обов’язкова (проте, на нашу думку, вони покращують роботу кінцевого користувача):

ОСНОВНІ ВИМОГИ ДО ПК І ДОПУЩЕННЯ
Комп’ютер користувача
Вимоги до процесора: 300 мегагерц (МГц) або вище; мінімальна частота - 233 МГц (одно- чи двопроцесорна система). Вимоги до пам’яті: рекомендований обсяг підтримуваної оперативної пам’яті - 128 мегабайт (МБ) або більше; мінімальний обсяг - 64 МБ. Вимоги до місця на жорсткому диску: 1,5 гігабайт (Гб) вільного місця на жорсткому диску без Windows Disk Protection або 4,0 Гб - із Windows Disk Protection. Бажано встановити DVD-дисковод.
Підключення машин користувачів iCafe до локальної мережі та Інтернету здійснюється за допомогою маршрутизатора. У локальній мережі на машині адміністратора з такими самими можливостями, як і комп’ютер користувача, можна запускати застосунок для рахунків адміністратора, зберігати образи машин користувачів та використовувати додаткові застосунки для підтримки та керування.
ОГЛЯД ПРОЦЕСУ НАСТРОЮВАННЯ
Виконайте такі дії:
1) Настройте машину для власників кафе. На ПК працюватимуть знаряддя адміністратора, зокрема застосунок для рахунків, та бази даних, окрім цього (додатково) на ньому зберігатимуться образи машин кінцевих користувачів.
2) Настройте зразкову машину кінцевого користувача.
а). Виконайте чисту установку Windows та створіть тільки обліковий запис адміністратора за промовчанням.
б). Увійдіть до системи, як адміністратор і встановіть необхідні компоненти з пакету програмного забезпечення для iCafe (за винятком Windows SteadyState). Підключіться до Інтернету та завантажте найновіше програмне забезпечення для кожного компонента.
в). Настройте клієнтський застосунок для рахунків, щоб підключитися до машини власника та бази даних.
г). Перебуваючи в системі як адміністратор, настройте послуги Windows Live , встановлені за допомогою Засобу настройок за промовчанням.
д). Встановіть Windows SteadyState; створіть обмеженого користувача за допомогою SteadyState. Вимкніть усі обмеження SteadyState Windows і функцій для обмеженого користувача.
е). Увійдіть до системи, як обмежений користувач (напр., користувач icafe ); запустіть усі застосунки та виконайте настроювання під час першого використання.
є). Увійдіть до системи, як адміністратор; настройте обмеження Windows SteadyState згідно цього документу.
ж). Увійдіть до системи, як користувач iCafe та перевірте, чи все працює належним чином.
