Hi to all the Colleague of the Spanish SC!
Being a fan of Mercedes Sosa I am teaching my 9-to-11 year old pupils the song "Duerme Negrito", that they will sing in May in front of parents and teachers.
I am going to translate the text into Italian but I can not find the meaning of "mobila" in the following verse:
Duerme, duerme, negrito,
que tu máma está en el campo, negrito.
Duerme, duerme, movila,
que tu máma está en el campo, movila.... See more Hi to all the Colleague of the Spanish SC!

Hi Sabina,
I think that word (with a 'b') is an afro-hispanic one and would mean 'baby'.
Let's keep enjoing La Negra! Cheers!

Hi Sabina,
I am not from the Spanish forum but I am a fan of Mercedes Sosa. I found this web site http://www.magossi9.hpg.ig.com.br/duerme-negrito.htm with the lyrics of the song.
It seems that the word "mobila" doesn't appear on the original lyrics.

Hi Sabina,
These websites with translation I've found of "Duerme, Negrito" (a song by Atahualpa Yupanqui - who I admire just as much as Mercedes Sosa)

She is going to bring quail for you,

As far as I know, the song is not by Mercedes Sosa, Atahualpa Yupanqui, nor Joaquín Sabina. The older version of that song has been written by the Cuban Ignacio Vila, a.k.a. "Bola de Nieve", and the lyrics was:
"Drumi, drumi, mobila" (Sleep, sleep, little black boy) (According to my CD, it was written by him).
Mobila is an afro latin word for "negrito".

I would like to explain that the word "mobila" or "movila" doesnt refer to any description of little black boy or as you say "negrito" the real meaning of the word "mobila" is a tender loving way to say "my life" "mi vida" so the translation should be "duerme, duerme mi vida" because certainly the song is about a a mother singing to her little black boy.
