Now we still need to decide on the location. The Trafalgar Pub - which would have been my favourite thanks to their nice garden in the back - only opens at 4 p.m. on Saturdays, as I found out today. So I would vote for Movies, where we can also sit outside (and a glass roof would shelter us from the rain, should the weather suddenly turn less favourable). This is their website: http://www.cafemovies.nl/
If everyone is happy with the place, I will go and book a table as soon as a more definite number of attendees is known.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Eindhoven,
Marion ▲ Collapse | | | Movies sounds good to me! | May 21, 2007 |
hi Marion,
Movies sounds good to me and it's very easy to find, right across the train station
Kind regards,
Mariëtte | | |
This is your initiative so I think you should decide on the location. Like you, I think the Trafalgar's garden would be the best bet and I'm quite sure that if you told them that the world's most important translators wanted to meet there at 15.00 - they would unlock the gates and welcome us in. Movies is also OK but we will be sitting on the pavement with all the sad individuals pouring out of de Bijenkorf, Albert Heijn and the games arcade across the road. Nigel's proposition regarding his back yard sounds great, but is not an option this time for people who are using the train. Perhaps you could organize your own Pw there this summer, Nigel! For now, one of the venues near the train station sounds great and is a great initiative.

I also think that we should stick to a location near the train station, because quite a few people will be coming from outside Eindhoven. Maybe we can invade your back garden in summer, Nigel - how about a translators' pool party?

Well, even though I was going to ask Movies for a table facing the pedestrian zone, I do agree that it would not be too quiet – but I think Markt (where Café Centraal is located) is even busier on a Saturday afternoon. So a third option came to my mind: we could go to Trafalgar after all, but a bit later? If none of the out-of-towners has an objection, I will change the above powwow information to 4.30 p.m., The Trafalgar Pub.

Just to let you know, 4:30's okay by me...

The Trafalgar at 4:30? That's fine with us | | | Trafalgar fine | May 22, 2007 |
Who said anything about a pool? Maybe some people in Nuenen do have their own, but not many of them are translators I think - how about a pond!
Trafalgar also fine for me, and the time also. Look forward to meeting you all there. This will be my first PowWow - how do I recognise a bunch of translators - a feather in the hair or a laptop on the knee???

Hi again,
There will be a table booked for us. If you just ask the bar staff for the "ProZ.com powwow", they will tell you where to find us (hopefully in the back garden, if the weather is nice). Unfortunately I don't have the big ProZ banner we had in Edinburgh and Budapest!

Someone else just enquired about organisation and payment: There is no fee for attending the powwow, and everyone will be asked to pay for their own consumption in the pub. They offer a nice menu, so maybe some people would like to grab a bite to eat.
If you have any other questions, please let me know. I will post directions to Trafalgar soon, but it’s really easy to find.
Marion
PS: Ok, no pool then, but as long as you provide some nice cocktails, Nigel, it will be fine… ▲ Collapse
I might just call in at Blokker on the way and buy an inflatable one, so bring your towels.
And yes, I see I am the only person attending who does not have a face - must do something about that.... | | | Marion Lurf United Kingdom Local time: 00:41 English to German + ... Possibility of getting VIDed | May 22, 2007 |
In case anyone would like to get their identity verified by ProZ.com, there is a chance to do so at this powwow. You will need to show me a photo ID and also display your real name on your ProZ.com profile. Marion Lurf United Kingdom Local time: 00:41 English to German + ... Table booked - please confirm attendance | May 28, 2007 |
Hi all,
I booked a table for us for 4.30 in Trafalgar; just ask for “Proz.com powwow” when you get there. Could you please confirm your attendance at your earliest convenience? I would like to tell them the (more or less) final numbers at the end of this week. Also, please let me know whether you intend to have some food by simply updating your messages in the sign-up list. (Of course, the more people are eating, the happier the pub will be…;-))

Sorry I can't confirm earlier. By the way: if you upload a photo here for your profile it can last several hours. Sometimes (weekends) even one whole day. So we are all very curious about Nigel's picture now.
