Chris in Praha-západ Jun 29, 2002

If you are really located in Praha-západ, your best bet is going via Plzen and Rozvadov. You'll make Würzburg in 4 hours. I know - I did part of that strecth last weekend. If (as I suspect), you call Dresden "Praha-západ", it won't take you any longer than that. You should be glad you don't live in Praha-východ!

Regards,
Volkmar

Unfortunately, I don't know any of the suggested restaurants/beer gardens, but if they are outside of town, they are hard to find for people who are not from here (and for me, I don't have any sense of direction or orientation ). Sternbäck is a great idea for coffee, and easy to find in the middle of downtown. Backöfele is within walking distance. They have all kinds of food, their steaks are yummy. If Schützenhof is within walking distance from downtown, great with me. I'll look into it.
To Chris: come on! What's 4 hours for a powwow! You would meet US and see Würzburg! 2 for 1, what more can you wish for! (peer pressure )

After further consideration, I agree, it should be in town and close - walking distance. So from my suggestions for dinner only Schützenhof or Nikolaushof could do. They are next to Käppele up on the hill and it is a walk of 20 mins to half an hour depending how you walk It has the advantage that they give you a fabulous view on the town, provided you booked the right table... Also it is worth taking into account when booking, that it is the weekend when Kiliani Fest starts in Würzburg, so it can be very busy in many places.

Hello, everyone! Saturday is approaching and I need to know who's coming for sure and whether you are bringing guests. I was planning on coffee at 3 or 4 pm, dinner at 7. Is that too early/late for anyone? Let me know.

Café reserved for 3 p.m. Jul 2, 2002

Alright, I reserved a table for 12 persons at Café Sternbäck, http://www.sternbaeck.de/Kontakt/kontakt.html . Your best bet would be to follow the Stadtmitte signs, park in the Marktgarage and then walk. Sternbäck is pretty much in the middle of downtown, close to the Dom (can't miss that). To Chris: sorry you can't make it this time, maybe next time!
