It's getting increasingly harder to get any use out of this feature. Out of the 20 visitors displayed on my first page, only 3 were actual visitors. I had 16 search engine robots visiting my profile yesterday alone.

Would it be possible for Proz to filter out these robots, so we can analyze and focus on what's really important (the actual, human visitors)?

It's gotten worse lately... Aug 28, 2009

...hasn't it? In the last month or so the problem has grown bigger, I think. Too many search engine IPs, scrutinizing our profiles and CVs. But then again, even if a real person looks at your profile and CV and you check their IP, is this so useful as to be a PRO feature?

More robots recently Aug 28, 2009

I've noticed more robots visiting recently, too, and they all seem to be looking at more sections of my profile as well as my CV.

It would be nice to have a way to filter these somehow so that the "real" visitors are more prominent on the visitors tab. Great suggestion, Andreas!

Sitemeter and Java Script Aug 28, 2009

The page's visitor counter is too simple to actually get some valuable information. I use SiteMeter which is far superior (crawlers and bots aren't counted) and free. The problem is that once ProZ decided to remove the JavaScript, the 'Referring URL' feature, which is the most important information, was disabled. I don't know if members, as opposed to non-paying users, can still use JavaScript though.

Me too was thinking to post a similar question.

In addition, since Proz introduced the Javascript anti-feature (to be or not to be for Javascript? basically NOT, since 99,9% of people don't know what it is - see http://www.proz.com/forum/prozcom:_translator_coop/142348-changes_made_to_the_way_javascript_is_handled_in_prozcom_profiles-page3.html#1198796) I noticed I have almost only search engine visits.

Here's an example of what I get from the harmless Javascript I use on my profile page:
How long people stay on the page

0-1 Minuten .... 58,8 %
1-5 Minuten .... 5,9 %
5-10 Minuten .... 5,9 %
10-30 Minuten .... 17,6 %
30-60 Minuten .... 0 %
60-90 Minuten .... 0 %
über 90 Minuten .... 11,8 %

How many page impressions:

1 Aufruf .... 58,8 %
bis 5 .... 41,2 %
bis 10 ..... 0 %
bis 30 .... 0 %
mehr .... 0 %

Browser
Firefox 3.0 .... 38,9 %
Firefox 3.5 .... 16,7 %
MSIE 8.0 .... 16,7 %
MSIE 7.0 .... 11,1 %
MSIE 6.0 .... 11,1 %
Firefox 2.0 .... 5,6 %

Other features: IP address, keywords used, what site visitors come from...

It doesn't (and CAN'T) reveal private addresses nor Tel numbers, pictures or other personal information.
And it doesn't count search engines!

Clear division between viewed and not viewed traffic Aug 29, 2009

For some of my websites I am using Awstats and they have a very useful option of providing clear distinction between viewed and not viewed traffic (generated by bots, etc. rather than by real visitors). It would be great to be able to filter out not viewed traffic as information about it is much less useful than about real visitors.

What also worries me is great number of "Direct link/Unknown" entries - it is really important to know where these entries are from.

Cheers

Robot IP addresses Dec 15, 2009

Hi there,

since the endless robot IP address lists are still shown in the stats,
here's some list of their IP's - perhaps it helps to hide them?...

Thanks for providing the info. I was wondering how previous posters knew which were the robots.

I would definitely favor hiding them, since it doesn't give the translator any idea of what is really going on.

Can you explain this to me as if I was a 4 year old?

Thanks

Nearly 6 months have passed since then and the situation has become unbearable. The visitor's tab, like it is today, is competely useless.

Thank you very much.
