Source text - Arabic ومن غريب ما اتفق في هذه الوقعة أن رجلاً من المماليك يسمى "يلبغا المجنون" وهو من أصحابنا ساره يخرج من بيت الأمير الكبير عند شدة إشتعال الحرب بلا خوذة على رأسه، بل عليه قرقل مخمل عتيق منقوش، فيمشي إلى أن يصيرفي وسط الرملة في وقتٍ لا يطيق أحدٌ الخروج فيه من بيت الأمير الكبير لعظم الرمي بالنشاب والنفوط، فإذا صار إلى المكان المذكور وقف هناك وحده فيرمي عليه أهل القلعة رمياً عظيماً ويرمي هو أيضاً عليهم فلا يصيبه منهم سهمٌ واحد، ثم يأخذ يلبغا هذا بالسب والتوبيخ لهم والرمي عليهم فيجتمع عليه من أعيان رماة القلعيين عدة ويرمون عليه حتى يصير حوله من النشاب ما لا يحصى كثرةً وهو لا يصيبه شيء مع استمراره في السب لهم والرمي عليهم.
Translation - English Among the weird accidents of this war that occurred in this battle in that a man, a friend of ours and a Memeluke, nicknamed “Yalbagha Al-Majnoon” (the insane) got into the habit of going out of the Emir’s house. He did this in the thick of the fight without a helmet, but wearing an old sleeveless dappled velvet shirt. He used to venture as far as the center of the sandy area, at a time when nobody dared to venture out of the grand Emir’s house, for the great number of thrown arrows and naptha projectiles. Then at such a time, when he was at the said place, he used to stand there, a target to the heavy shooting of arrows for the citadel. He used to shoot his arrows at them; however, no arrows from them hit him. Then this Yalbagha used to start cursing, scolding and shooting arrows at them, only to cause the best marksmen to get together and let their arrows fly at him till he was surrounded by countless arrows which missed him. At the same time, he used to go on cursing and shooting his arrows at them.

Source text - Arabic وما دام الحديث بالمثال هو أفضل صور تقريب المفاهيم إلى الأذهان، فانني أحكي هذه الحكاية التي وردت في كتاب أحد القادة الصناعيين اليابانيين تحت عنوان " اليابان التي تستطيع أن تقول لا"، ففي أحد مصانع الرقائق فائقة التوصيل، فهي عماد صناعة الإلكترونيات المتطورة، لوحظ أن عيباً في إنتاج المصنع لا يمكن تلافيه برغم البحث بجدية وعمق عن جذوره التي ظلت خافية حتى عن أعين العلماء والباحثين في هذا المجال. وبينما كانت إحدى العاملات في طريقها المعتاد إلى المصنع، لاحظت أن القطار الذي ينقل بضائع أحد المصانع المجاورة يجعل الأرض تهتز عند مروره، ففكرت العاملة البسيطة في إحتمال أن تكون هذه الاهتزازات هي سبب العيوب التي تظهر في منتجات مصنعها. فابلغت رئيسها المباشر بما فكرت به، وأبلغ رئيسه رئيسه الأعلى، وهكذا حتى قررت إدارة المصنع بحث الإحتمال المبني على ملاحظة العاملة البسيطة. و ثبت بعد ذلك أن اهتزازات مرور القطار هي السبب الفعلي للعيوب في الرقائق الفائقة التوصيل.
انها قصة جديرة بالتأمل لتقريب مفاهيم الإبداع بالإدارة الحديثة، لنلاحظ أن بيت قصيد ليس حفر القناة، بل كيف أن العاملة البسيطة مهمومة بمشكلات مصنعها ومشغولة بالتفكير فيها، وكيف أنها عندما فكرت لم يسخر منها رؤساؤها، ولم ينسبوا حتى فضل التفكير لأنفسهم. لا أريد الدخول فالتفاصيل الأكاديمية لمسائل إكتشاف وتطوير الإبداع الإداري، ولا التدريبات العلمية والفنية المتابعة لبلوغ ذلك، فذلك شأن المتخصصين. فقط أردت أن أنبه إلى خطورة وأهمية وعظمت العائد من الإعتراف بفن الإدارة الحديثة.
Translation - English Since talking by way of citing examples is the best technique to bring a concept closer to understanding, I would like to mention the following story, which appeared under the title of “Japan That Can Say No” in a book by a leading Japanese industrialist. In a factory for the production of super microchips, which are the mainstay of the industry of advanced electronics, a defect has been noticed, one which could not be corrected, despite serious and thorough investigation into the root causes that remained hidden, even from the eyes of the scientists and researchers in the field.
While on her regular commute to the factory, one of the workers noticed that a train that carries the products of the neighboring factory caused the ground to vibrate when it passed by. The simple worker thought of the possibility that such vibrations could be the reason for the defects in the products of her factory. So she informed her direct manager, who in turn informed his direct manager and so on until the factory’s upper management decided to investigate the suggestion that is based on the worker’s observation. Later on, it was confirmed that the vibrations caused by the passing train were indeed the cause of the defects in the microchips.
This is a story worth pondering in order to bring us closer to understanding the concept of creativity in modern management. Let’s take note that the main point is not digging the canal, but the fact that the a simple worker was burdened and preoccupied with the problems in her factory, and how, when she thought of something, her superiors did not deride her, or attempt to claim the credit of her thoughts as their own. I do not want to get into the academic details pertaining to discovery and development of innovative management, or the scientific and technical training required to obtain that, because this is the responsibility of specialists in the field. I just want to draw attention to the gravity, importance and greatness of the gains resulting from the acknowledgement of the art of modern management.
