English to Spanish: School Director Profile
Source text - English Profile: Ms. Jeanne Bishop
EK Powe is so pleased that Ms. Bishop, who originally came to us as an interim principal, has agreed to stay on. She brings years of varied experiences and a lot of enthusiasm.
Perhaps the first indication of Ms. Bishop's future as a school leader came during her own elementary years. Her favorite teacher, "Miss Margaret," had a miniature model of her own desk that sat side by side with the real thing at the head of the class. Every student got a chance to occupy that desk for a week, bringing along their paper and pencils to put in the drawers. Well, some years later, and after graduating from UNC Chapel Hill with an ED Degree, Ms. Bishop would have her own desk at the head of the class when she taught 4th grade for some 22 years in Chatham County. A great believer in education, Ms. Bishop continued her education with a Masters in Reading and Language Arts and then a certificate with an Advanced Degree in Administration. When Ms. Bishop took on new challenges, she became Assistant Principal at Pittsboro Primary, a Principal at North Chatham Elementary, and then Principal at Parkwood Elementary until her retirement in 2006.
That's right! Ms. Bishop came out of retirement to answer EK Powe's call for assistance. After she got started at EK Powe, Ms. Bishop observed that what attracted her stay was "the community support; faculty and staff dedication…and the desire to assist with educational initiatives taking place." And since her decision to stay, Ms. Bishop says she has felt the "kindness of the students, community support, and the enthusiasm of the staff."
With all the work ahead of her, I asked what help she would ask of a genie in a bottle, were she offered three wishes. Here's her "wish list:"
o "All Powe students had a functional, warm and loving home environment and brought with them to school a sense of being cared for and nurtured.
o Powe would make tremendous growth this school year in the areas of reading, writing, math and science.
o The entire community would see the importance of supporting its local school."
Even if we're not able to locate a genie, I think the EK Powe community can help out with all three of these wishes.
It's absolutely clear that Ms. Bishop has many gifts to share with this community –energy, can-do attitude, and a healthy dose of humor. She also has a very evident confidence in EK Powe – students, parents, caregivers, and the surrounding community. I know we are ready to roll up our sleeves and work side by side with Ms. Bishop. But if you were wondering how Ms. Bishop gears up for a work list like the one she's made for herself, here's a little hint: You can find it at Coldstone Creamery and the preferred flavor is Cake Batter with a mix-in of Heath Bar and brownie.
