I see my role as translator first and foremost as a mediator between cultures. In my opinion, translation is not about words but about communication. As a service provider my highest priority is to meet the needs and preferences of my customers.
A good translation is characterized by not being recognizable as translation. Thus, the essence of translation is to adapt the source text in such a way that it does comply not only with the linguistic but also with the cultural and subject-specific conventions of the target culture.
Therefore, a good translator needs excellent linguistic skills (in the foreign and in the native language), extensive expert knowledge and an extraordinary sense and awareness for cultural particularities.
It is this combination of creativity, communication and continuous learning, as well as the possibility to work independently and responsibly, that fascinate me about my profession.
