Source text - English Like fundamentalist Judaism and medieval Christianity, Islam is totalist. That is to say, it makes a total claim on the individual. Indeed, there is no individual; there is only the umma - the community of believers. Ayatollah Khomeini, in his copious writings, often returns to this theme. He unindulgently notes that believers in most religions appear to think that, so long as they observe all the formal pieties, then for the rest of the time they can do more or less as they please. ‘Islam’, as he frequently reminds us, ‘isn't like that.’ Islam follows you everywhere, into the kitchen, into the bedroom, into the bathroom, and beyond death into eternity. Islam means ‘submission’ - the surrender of independence of mind. That surrender now bears the weight of well over 60 generations, and 14 centuries.

English to Swedish: Tobacco or Health in the European Union
Source text - English The European Commission made the EAC programme public at the end of 1986.
It contained 14 measures against tobacco, one of them on the labelling of tobacco products.
The proposed directive was not based on health grounds, but on internal market measures.
The creation of a single market required common trade rules, which should take into account
a high level of health protection. At the time Ireland was leading the way with strong,
unambiguous health warnings such as “Smoking causes cancer” printed in large characters
on the largest surface of the pack. Other countries, such as Luxembourg, Greece and
the Netherlands, had no laws on labelling. Having introduced legislation requiring health
warnings, Ireland was unwilling to accept imported cigarettes which did not have health
warnings. Article 100A EC, which concerned market harmonisation and included a paragraph
on health, safety, environmental and consumer protection, taking as a base a high level
of protection, was used to justify harmonised and stronger regulations on labelling.
The directive was adopted in November 1989 and came into force on 1 January 1992

I am a very driven and enthusiastic new translator that’s just graduated from Lund University’s translation course. As I have just graduated I have not had time to gain any work experience or specialise in any field. However, I am very competent and very passionate about what I do. I have a great love of language and tremendous respect for the effect that written language can have on a person’s perception of a product, a place or of another human being.
Just as language can be an art it is also a great tool, something to help us carry ideas and information across to each other, whether it be to thousands of people or to just one. A translator’s job is to safely and accurately transfer information from one language to another, an important role that is not to be taken lightly, especially when it comes to texts, such as instruction manuals or marketing texts, that are to be read and used by many people.
As mentioned above, I have little work experience, but I think this is something I make up for with enthusiasm, a great sense of accuracy and a willingness to learn. I am a hard worker and will do everything in my power to keep a deadline without letting quality suffer.
