I am a UK based linguist with over ten years' working experience in English, French, Scottish Gaelic and Japanese. I worked for a Japanese publishing firm for eight years before becoming a complete freelancer in 2004.
I have translated a number of books covering broad range of subjects including business, culture, media, fashion, cooking and gastronomy. I have also translated mottos and slogans for administration of multinational companies with headquarters in Japan.
I studied contemporary philosophy and theory of art at postgraduate level, and have read intensively in literary theory and cultural studies. I have a doctorate in Cultural Studies and Theory of Art from the University of Tokyo, and have completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Glasgow. I also trained as an art psychotherapist, and am a registered member of British Association of Art Therapists. As a qualified psychotherapist, I do my best to keep up to date with current developments in the fields of general medicine and health care, as well as psychology and psychiatry. I have translated a number of academic articles written by my fellow researchers and clinicians (J < E, E < J). I am also a poet and short story writer published both in Japanese and in English.
I also have a very high command of the French language, having lived in France for five years.
In addition to my translation experience, I am also a professional researcher/critic of art, teaching part-time as a lecturer in a UK university, and my writings have been widely published in Europe and Japan.
If you are looking for a professional linguist with specialist knowledge in art, thoughts, and medicine, I can guarantee an excellent result, paying particular attention to readability and style.
In short, I am passionate about my languages!
I offer competitive rates and am willing to negotiate. I work quickly but thoroughly.
