I started translating regularly about four years ago and like many people coming from other backgrounds, more or less slipped into the profession, starting with software documentation for a company I had done some web programming for.
Having lived in a German-speaking environment for some time before I started to translate meant that my greatest challenge has been to get my translations free from Germanisms or 'Denglisch'. However, living here also means that my second language is being continually refreshed and extended.
I do not translate legal texts or contracts as I am not familiar with the structures required to provide a good translation in this field. |
