It is home to an invaluable cultural heritage of traditional knowledge and practices related to the use of its natural resources. The medicinal plants of the Cerrado have always been used for treating family health by individuals with specialised knowledge, and more recently by community groups. The work of these hundreds of groups is known for the efficiency of the treatments, and that the services they provide are reliable. Groups also make efforts to ensure that everyone has access to the medicines, which are sold at very affordable prices, or are given to those who have no means to pay.

Source text - English INTRODUCTION
The International Disaster Response Laws, Rules and Principles (IDRL) Programme was initiated in 2001 by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in order to examine ways in which international and national regulatory frameworks can best promote speedy, effective and accountable international response to disasters (excluding armed conflict) with the ultimate aim of reducing the vulnerability and suffering of people affected by disasters. Its overall goal is to analyze and promote awareness, implementation and improvement of the existing IDRL frameworks, starting from the premise that legal preparedness for disasters is crucial in ensuring the speedy and efficient delivery of aid to disaster-affected victims.
In 2003, the 28th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent - bringing together the States Parties to the 1949 Geneva Conventions, the Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies, the International Federation and the International Committee of the Red Cross - officially mandated the International Federation and National Societies to lead collaborative efforts, involving States, the United Nations and other relevant bodies, in conducting research and advocacy activities in the IDRL field. The IDRL Programme is in line with the International Federation’s Global Agenda 2006-2010 goals 1, 3 and 4.

Le Programme International sur les Politiques, Principes et Lois (IDRL) relatifs aux Catastrophes a été lancé en 2001 par la Fédération internationale des Sociétés de Croix-Rouge et Croissant-Rouge. L’objectif visé était d’étudier les moyens par lesquels les cadres réglementaires nationaux et internationaux pouvaient le mieux promouvoir une intervention internationale rapide, efficace et responsable en cas de catastrophe (à l’exception des conflits armés) avec comme objectif final, la réduction de la vulnérabilité et des souffrances des populations affectées par lesdites catastrophes. Son objectif global consiste à analyser et favoriser la prise de conscience, la mise en œuvre et l’amélioration des mécanismes IDRL actuels, en partant du principe que la préparation juridique aux catastrophes est essentielle pour garantir une fourniture rapide et efficiente de l’aide aux personnes sinistrées.
En 2003, la 28ème Conférence internationale de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge – réunissant les Etats parties aux Conventions de Genève de 1949, les Sociétés Nationales de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge, la Fédération internationale et le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge – avait officiellement donné mandat à la Fédération internationale et aux Sociétés Nationales pour piloter les efforts de collaboration, impliquant les Etats, les Nations Unies et autres organes concernés, en matière de recherche et d’activités de plaidoyer dans le domaine IDRL. Le Programme IDRL est en phase avec les objectifs 1, 3 et 4 inscrits à l’Agenda Global 2006-2010 de la Fédération internationale.
