Here is the detailed explanation of the /ХХХХХ/ study. You are affected by drug resistant tuberculosis, because of that this information sheet has been given to you. You are invited for common screening thus we will evaluate your possibility of participation in the study. Please read carefully the information sheet and ask us if you would like further information. If you have decided on your participation in this study, you have to sign the agreement sheet or to tell us about it in presence of your witness and we will kindly verify your suitability for participation in our study.
1. What will I do in case of participating in the research?
Once you have decided to participate in the study, the following tests will be done to determine your suitability for the study:
Sputum test to determine the type of your tuberculosis;
Blood test to determinate the presence of HIV (15ml /3 teaspoons of blood). If the HIV test is positive, your CD4 will be counted (to determine the level of your resistance against infection).
Blood tests for determination of liver and kidney functions.
If you are a woman of reproductive age, urine analyses will be conducted to see if you are pregnant;
ECG (painless method of checking your heart activity).
You will be asked about your previous diseases. You need to give us your address, phone number.
Your HIV results will be discussed and the professional will advise you about it, if necessary you will have treatment.
When you come back to a clinic two weeks later, we will inform you about your suitability for the study. If you are selected for the study you need to give us more information about you, sign an agreement if you still want to join the study. Even if you have given your agreement for screening, agreeing to be screened does not mean that you are committed to joining the study.
2. What are the risks and the weaknesses of the research?
Risks concerning the blood test
Blood test is obligatory in the study. There are risks of the swelling, pain, infection on the areas where the blood is taken. Losing consciousness during the procedure is possible in some rare cases.
Risks in knowing the results
Some people would worry about the result of the HIV test. You have to talk about it with your physician or consultant. He will give you a clear explanation about your situation and the results of your analyses. You do not need to worry or be scared about your condition. You have to listen carefully and the consultant and physician will talk openly to you about it.
3. What is the advantage in participating in the screening?
You will talk to a study consultant. He will advise you openly about your troubles and health.
4. If I decide to not participate in the research?
You have the right to decide if you want to participate in the trial or not, that is up to you. You can leave the research as you want and when you want. If you decide to stop the treatment and leave the research program we would like you telling us the real reasons about your actions to the research team and come to the clinic to do the last screening.
