Organology
Introduction
In this chapter, we would elaborate upon musical instruments in general and some important facts about them in specific. We would go into the meaning and definition, scope, utility etc of musical instruments. We would also see the various methods of classifying musical instruments. The main reason behind naming this chapter as “Organology” is that the term “organology” includes all aspects of musical instruments. It has been my endeavour in this thysis and elsewhere too, that the new terms with regard to music should be incorporated in the text while furnishing practical as well as theoretical details. Through the use of a proper technical or musical term, we can transmit the ideas in a better way. Keeping all this in mind, the chapter has been given a technical name. eventually, we should use correct terminology.

वाद्यों का वर्गीकरण
भूमिका
इस अध्याय में हम सामान्यतः संगीत-वाद्यों की चर्चा करेंगे तथा विशिष्टतः उनसे संबंधित कुछ तथ्यों को जानेंगे. हम संगीत-वाद्यों के अर्थ, परिभाषा, क्षेत्र, उपयोगिता इत्यादि पर प्रकाश डालेंगे. हम वाद्य-वर्गीकरण के विभिण् ढंगों का भी अवलोकन करेंगे. इस अद्ध्याय का शीर्षक ‘वाद्यों का वर्गीकरण’ रखने का कारण यह है कि ‘वाद्य-वर्गीकरण’ एक तकनीकी शब्दावली है, जो संगीत-वाद्यों के सभी पक्षों को समाहित करती है. इस शोध-प्रबंध में, तथा अन्य स्थानों पर भी, मेरा यह प्रयत्न रहा है कि संगीत के क्रियात्मक तथा शास्त्रीय पक्ष तथा तत्संबंधी तथ्यों का उळ्एख करते समय तकनीकी शब्दावली का संयोजन यथासंभव करना चाहिये. सही तकनीकी शब्दावली के उचित प्रयोग से हम विचारों को अधिक अच्छे धंग से संप्रेषित कर सकते हैं. इन सब बातों को ध्यान में रखकर ही इस अद्ध्याय को एक तकनीकी नाम दिया गया है. अंततोगत्वा, हमें तकनीकी शब्दावली का ही प्रयोग करना चाहिये.
