Bio
I’m Nika, a Slovenian translator and linguist with 20 years of full-time experience working between English and Slovenian. My career has taken me across a wide range of specialised fields – from technology, software and automotive to medical, pharmaceutical and regulatory content, as well as localisation, marketing and transcreation.
With an academic background in both Translation and Interpreting and Slovene Language and Literature, I’ve always approached translation as more than the transfer of words between languages. It is about understanding the subject, recognising what the source is really trying to communicate, and making sure the result works naturally, precisely and convincingly in the target language.
After two decades in the profession, I’ve developed a particular appreciation for the details that can make or break a translation: terminology, register, consistency, context and those seemingly small linguistic decisions that often have a surprisingly large impact.
I’m naturally curious, somewhat obsessive about terminology, and still genuinely enjoy the intellectual challenge of finding exactly the right way to say something. For me, that is one of the best things about being a linguist – there is always another nuance to notice, another problem to solve, and another word worth getting right.
