Раствор n-диметиламинобензальдегида готовят следующим образом: 0,5 г n-диметиламинобензальдегида растворяют в 50 мл смеси 60 объемных частей этанола и 40 объемных частей концентрированной серной кислоты. Раствор может храниться достаточно долго в герметически закрытой темной склянке. При проведении испытаний несколько миллиграммов исследуемого вещества помещают в фарфоровую чашку, прибавляют несколько капель индикаторного раствора, нагревают смесь до 100 град. С и выдерживают при этой температуре 3 мин. В случае наличия кокаина появляется красное окрашивание.

The solution can be stored for rather a long time in a hermetically sealed dark colored jar. During the examination several milligrams of the substance in question are placed onto a porcelain spot plate , then several drops of the indicator solution are added, the mix is heated to 100 degrees C, and the temperature is maintained for 3 minutes. Red color will develop in the presence of cocaine.
