Education and Work Experience:

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (Econometrics) obtained from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

I worked with TIS (Translating and Interpreting Service) which was attached to the Dept. of Immigration, from 1987 until 1998, on different bases from in-house translator to contract translator (when translation work was outsourced).
While working there, I have translated several official documents aiming at providing information on settlement and migration issues to migrants. Major projects include "Information for Migrants in New South Wales" - 40 page-booklet, and "Marrying and Migrating" - 12,000 words, "Reconciliation Document" - 2,500 words, "Translation for The Attorney-General's Department" - 4,000 words.
I have translated other documents with various topics as required by the clients from legal contracts, medical reports, health surveys, and documents of personal nature.

I also worked for the Dept. of Immigration from 1998 to 2005 as a permanent residence visa processing officer. During that period I continued to work as a contract translator for TIS and other agencies.

I currently work as a freelance translator for private and government agencies in Australia where I translate documents on various topics and of varied nature and complexities. Government agencies include SBS (Special Broadcasting Service), Community Relations Commission (CRC), Multicultural Communications, Northern Territory (NT) Interpreter and Translation Services, as well as various other private agencies.

I am also on the panel of translators working for the Australian Crime Commission (ACC) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

My latest major projects:
• A booklet entitled: “Parenthood, the most important job in the world”, approx 15,000 words, which was sponsored by DOCS, forwarded by Marie R. Bashir A.C. Governor of NSW, and was widely distributed all over the Arabic speaking community in NSW.
• Information booklet entitled "Heart Care" for a major pharmaceutical company, approx 6,000 words
• Diabetes awareness campaign for 'Diabetes Australia', including rub-n-reveal campaign for diagnosing pre-diabetes, approx 11,000 words
• DFAT ministerial statements and launches of CAAR (Council for Australian-Arab Relations) and documentation related to the Council for internet publication, approx 6,500 words
• NSW Department of Corrective Services Inmate Handbook, approx 11,000 words
• Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) information booklet “Beginning a life in Australia”, approx. 28,000 words.
• Proofreading of 3 surveys for “Asiatis” from U.S. English to Australian English
