I'm Katarina, PhD, a historian and lecturer turned wine writer, content strategist, and wine export consultant based in Florence. Originally from Sweden, I have lived and worked in Italy for more than 25 years, combining my academic background with extensive experience in Italy's wine industry and the translation sector. I hold a PhD in History from the European University Institute in Florence, where my research focused on nineteenth-century nationalism and the myth of Garibaldi in Scandinavia. Before that, I studied general literature and Italian language and literature at Lund University in Sweden. I am also a FISAR-certified sommelier. I have taught Modern European and Scandinavian History at Halmstad University in Sweden and Italian Wine History at Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute in Florence. I have taught an intensive Italian Wine History course for visiting students from Next-U Education in Bordeaux and Lyon. I have furthermore given guest lectures at Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute and the Umbra Institute in Perugia. Today, I work as a wine writer, strategic content advisor, translator, and export consultant, with a particular focus on Italian wine, native grape varieties, smaller producers, and lesser-known wine regions. In 2015, I founded WinesOfItaly LiveStream, becoming an early pioneer of livestreaming in the wine industry and using the format to bring Italian wine producers and their stories directly to an international audience. My work has since increasingly explored the connections among wine, sense of place, history, culture, communication, and international markets. My teaching combines a historian’s perspective with practical experience in today’s wine industry, linking the history and culture of wine to the realities of the contemporary wine business. Translation I have worked as a professional translator for 20 years, translating mainly legal, commercial, EU, technical, international relations, and wine & food texts.
