“Really, it is not a big problem,” Kórípé explained when Dr. Agbaje returned from the lecture room. “But I have to discuss it, sir.”
“Okay, go ahead.”
“Thank you, sir. I mentioned the matter earlier.”
“You did?”
“I said I live at Atanda.”
“Yes?”
“And you live at Shogunle, sir.”
“I think I know that.”
“I’d like to make a request.”
“Go straight to the point, please.”
“Okay sir”. Kórípé cleared his throat. “Do you know the Registrar’s house?”
“I am yet to visit his new residence.”
“Oh, he lives on our street; Kadupe Street. That’s where his house is.”
“Well?”
“Maybe, you know the residence of the State Permanent Secretary for Special Duties? His house is not far from mine. He’s one of our neighbours; just the next street: Alayande Close.”
Dr. Agbaje eyed his new driver from head to foot. “Is there any reason why I should know those addresses?”
“Yes, sir,” Kórípé said and paused. “You live far from the college, and I live on the way to the college.”
“Yes?”
Kórípé joined his hands and rubbed them. He smiled and bowed his head politely, apparently pleading for assistance.
Dr. Agbaje laughed to himself ironically. “Now I can understand. I should pick you up on my way to the college?”
“Well, ...”
“Something like it? Be specific.”
“I just need your help sir. I will wait for you at...” Kórípé started.
“At Atanda; yes?” Dr. Agbaje interupted. “So that I can pick you up on my way to the office? I said I understood. It’s very simple. You and I will work shifts. That is it. I will wash the car in the morning, drive it to your place and then the shift? Àbí? In the evening, you will drop at Atanda and give me the key so I can drive home safely.”
“Especially on our way back...”
Dr. Agbaje sounded a little more sarcastic when he added, “The arrangement will be to work out.The challenge is that decent accommodation is scarce in the area; except for a few landlords who live in their own houses. But now that I know where you live I will ask my agents to scout round for accommodation on my behalf. And, as soon as they get a good one, I will move over.”
“No sir. I am not asking you to move.”
“I know. It is only a suggestion. And it is a good one. But, in the interim, I will speak with the Head of Maintenance. He will make a temporary arrangement so that you can be working with someone living in your area. That will make things faster and better for both of us. Indeed, I will call him right away and request that he make the arrangement soonest. I will tell him exactly what my Oga from the North wants. I am sure he will be glad to help.”
“But sir; don’t tell HOM that I’m your Oga. He may not like it.
“Why not? He will understand. In driving; can any of us on this campus teach you how to drive? So, no problem. I am Oga in one field and you are Oga in another. That’s it.”
“God bless you, sir,” Kórípé grinned absently. “It is very kind of you.”
“You may go and meet him now.”
“Thank you sir. Nagode!”

Nígbàtí Ọ̀mọ̀wé Agbájé padà dé láti yàrá ìgbẹ̀kọ́, Kórípé ṣàlàyé fún-un, “dájúdájú kìí ṣe ohun tóṣòro. Ṣùgbọ́n à fi kájọ sọ́ sà.”.
“Ó yá, jẹ́ kí n gbọ́.”
Ẹ ṣeun sà. Mo ti mẹ́nu ba ọ̀rọ̀ náà tẹ́lẹ̀.”
“Lóòtọ́?”
“Mo sọpé Àtàndá ni mò ń gbé.”
“Ẹ̀hẹ́n?”
“Ẹ̀yín sì ń gbé ní Ṣhógúnlẹ̀ sà.”
“Mo ròpé mo mọ̀ yẹn.”
“Mo fẹ́ bẹ̀bẹ̀ kan niì.”
“Jọ̀wọ́, sọ ojú abẹ níkòó.”
