Source text - English Prosperity is the objective. According to Henrietta Moore (2018) of University College London’s (UCL) Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP): “A prosperous society is not necessarily a society that is wealthy – although a strong economy is an essential part of it. Instead, it is a society that is inclusive, sustainable, and capable of offering its residents the ability to have a fulfilling life. We must rethink and redefine the meaning of prosperity, as well as promoting multi-dimensional theories of well-being, happiness, and social progress as an alternative to the dogma of GDP growth.” This oppose the concepts of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross National Happiness (GNH) as means to measure prosperity and development, the former is a monetary measure of the market value of all goods and services produced, and the latter is a measurement of the collective happiness in a nation taking into consideration wellbeing, community and other variables as opposed to only monetary or material growth (Verma, 2017). This paper’s goal is to showcase the link between prosperity, entrepreneurship and plastic waste solutions. A more prosperous nation fosters more innovative ideas that can benefit society and create alternatives to issues like plastics by reducing consumption, recycling and reuse. Entrepreneurship ventures like the Plastic Bank are curbing the issue and bringing prosperity for the people in Haiti. These actions are being done via various social entrepreneurship models such as bricoleur, constructionist and engineer. But it is only a start. According to the Inter-American Bank of Development (IDB) Haiti is considered one of the countries with the greatest risk of plastic entering the ocean (Iadb.org, 2019). Although recycling is a popular solution, of all plastics produced to date an estimated only 9% have been recycled (Geyer et al., 2017). The root cause is important to analyse. A study by the Plastic Waste Makers Index named 100 companies such as Exxonmobil and Sinopec as the source of 90% of global single-use plastic production (Shukman, 2021). This dissertation draws on the works of Isenberg, Brooks, Wang, Rochman, Moore, Roseling, Ramachandran, Walz, Hayek, Schumpeter, Zahra, Gedajlovic, Neubaum and more.

Il s'agit plutôt d'une société inclusive, durable et capable d'offrir à ses résidents la possibilité d'avoir une vie épanouissante. Nous devons repenser et redéfinir le sens de la prospérité, ainsi que promouvoir les théories multidimensionnelles du bien-être, du bonheur et du progrès social comme alternative au dogme de la croissance du PIB. » Cela s'oppose clairement aux concepts de produit intérieur brut (PIB) et de bonheur national brut (BNB) comme moyens pour mesurer la prospérité et le développement. Le premier est une mesure monétaire de la valeur marchande de tous les biens et services produits, et le second est une mesure du bonheur collectif d’une nation en tenant compte du bien-être, de la communauté et d'autres variables par opposition à la seule croissance monétaire ou matérielle (Verma, 2017). L'objectif de cet article est de montrer le lien entre la prospérité, l'entrepreneuriat et les solutions par rapport aux déchets plastiques. Une nation plus prospère favorise des idées plus innovantes qui peuvent profiter à la société et créer des alternatives à des problèmes tels que les plastiques ; en réduisant la consommation, le recyclage et la réutilisation. Des entreprises modèle, comme la Plastic Bank, réduisent le problème et apportent la prospérité à la population haïtienne. Ces actions se concrétisent via différents modèles d'entrepreneuriat social tels que : bricoleur, constructeur et ingénieur. Mais ce n'est qu'un début. Selon la Banque Interaméricaine de Développement (BID), Haïti est considéré comme l'un des pays où le risque de déversement de plastiques dans l'océan est le plus élevé (Iadb.org, 2019). Bien que le recyclage soit une solution populaire, de tous les plastiques produits à ce jour, on estime que seulement 9 % ont été recyclés (Geyer et al., 2017). Il est important d’analyser la cause. Une étude du Plastic Waste Makers Index a nommé 100 entreprises telles qu'Exxonmobil et Sinopec comme source de 90 % de la production mondiale de plastique à usage unique (Shukman, 2021). Du coup cette thèse tente d’éclaircir les problèmes and de donner des solutions applicables.
